Here’s two ways to get full-text articles from your PubMed searches:

1. Use OVID MEDLINE. Its a different interface from the NCBI PubMed but the content is all the same. Simply click on the Check for full-text button next to each article and you will get the full-text if we have it.
2. If you prefer the NCBI PubMed interface, the problem is that you can’t link directly to the library’s collection: PubMed is a free online resource and DCU Library has no connection with it. Instead,  copy an article’s PMID number and paste it into DCU Library’s Citation Linker. Again, if we have the full-text, you will get an link it. Bookmark the Citation Linker and try it yourself! Here’s a video showing how it works.

What is SciFinder

Currently a maximum of four users can access SciFinder simultaneously. From October 1, 2009,  IReL will only be able to support two concurrent users.

At the moment we have access to two versions of SciFinder; the web-based version (max. two users) and the older client version (max. two users). To manage the reduction in concurrent users, we have decided to phase out the client version from October 1.

To start using the web-based version, you must create a SciFinder user account and you must change your web browser’s settings to ensure it works correctly. We will deliver a short workshop on this for new users on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, between 1000 and 1030, in training room 1 in DCU Library. All staff and students are welcome and no booking is necessary.

DCU Library now has trial access to two new titles from Wiley Interscience:

• Nanomedicine and Nanobiotechnology
• Systems Biology and Medicine

These are the first titles in Wiley’s new WIRE series (Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews). We have free access up to 2011. A third title, Computational Statistics, will be published soon, with others to follow.

DCU Library’s access to Wiley Interscience is funded by IReL.

Thanks to everyone who completed the recent IReL Impact Survey. 44% of DCU researchers responded – one of the highest turnouts nationwide. Your very positive responses are a crucial part of making sure IReL’s funding continues.

A summary report of the survey is now available including some of your comments:

• Hunger and Poverty: The Role of Biodiversity

CAB Abstracts is primarily a plant science, agriculture and environmental science resource, but it also covers biotechnology, microbiology, and human health.

DCU’s access to CAB Abstracts is funded by IReL.

In 2007, over 2,000 researchers from the seven Irish universities, including 190 from DCU, took part in the IReL Impact Survey. We asked you what resources you would like to see added to IReL. Here’s the progress we’ve made since:
