Currently a maximum of four users can access SciFinder simultaneously. From October 1, 2009, IReL will only be able to support two concurrent users.
At the moment we have access to two versions of SciFinder; the web-based version (max. two users) and the older client version (max. two users). To manage the reduction in concurrent users, we have decided to phase out the client version from October 1.
To start using the web-based version, you must create a SciFinder user account and you must change your web browser’s settings to ensure it works correctly. We will deliver a short workshop on this for new users on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, between 1000 and 1030, in training room 1 in DCU Library. All staff and students are welcome and no booking is necessary.
If you can’t make it to the class, watch these e-tutorials.

Thanks to everyone who completed the recent IReL Impact Survey. 44% of DCU researchers responded – one of the highest turnouts nationwide. Your very positive responses are a crucial part of making sure IReL’s funding continues.
A summary report of the survey is now available including some of your comments:
- “IReL is probably the only area in which Ireland outstrips international competition – the provision of a MASSIVE range of online information is the best I have encountered.”
- “IReL has been the most smart, practical and concrete manifestation of a commitment to a Knowledge Economy that I’ve seen.”
- “IReL provides a world class service, without which credible international research in Ireland would be severely compromised.”
