DCU Library training: RefWorks versus Zotero

Details below of forthcoming RefWorks classes for researchers and staff.

We will also be delivering a presentation on Zotero. Zotero is a free, open source alternative to RefWorks. While its still in development and not as well established as RefWorks, it is in many ways easier to use and offers some great new features for researchers. The presentation will cover:
-a demonstration of Zotero’s key features
-comparing Zotero with RefWorks and Mendeley, another rival reference management app.
All staff and students are welcome

All events will take place in Training Room 1, DCU Library.

    Hi,

I’m a community relations manager at Mendeley. I was wondering if you had looked at Mendeley as a reference manager. It’s free and can easily integrate with Zotero. I couldn’t see a way of contacting you via email, but please write to me for more information and to let me know whether you would consider adding Mendeley to your training classes.

    Many thanks,
    Andrew

      Hi Andrew,
While the class will be mostly on Zotero, I will also be mentioning Mendeley. Its got some great features – like the ability to mark and add comments to PDFs. But for the moment DCU Library and the DCU acadecmic community are committed to sticking with RefWorks. We’re keeping an open mind about the alternatives and will compinue to monitor the development of Mendeley and others but support for ref. management software is very labour intensive so we are wary of spreading ourselves to thinly by supporting a selection of overlapping services.
      Kind regards,
      Jack Hyland
